DENTAL VENEER
Your smile is one of your best features. It can project your personality and make you more sociable in everyday life.

DENTAL VENEER

Dental veneers are popular for restoring the strength and appearance of teeth that may be poorly shaped, discolored, crooked, gapped, chipped or worn, cracked or broken. First off, dental veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. Sometimes veneers require removal of a small amount of tooth structure (0.3-0.5mm) while other times they can be placed directly over your existing tooth without any tooth removal.

BENEFITS

You may need veneer for esthetic to:
- Cover a misshapen or discolored tooth
- Improve tooth alignment where discrepancies are minimal
- Cover a jagged tooth or a tooth with a small filling
At EMCAS we are using EMAX Veneer from Ivolar Vivadent (Germany) which is crafted from very high strength porcelain (360Mpa). EMAX veneers are translucent in appearance - a quality which gives them the ability to provide a more natural appearance to your teeth.

DENTAL CROWNS OR VENEERS?

Veneers and crowns, typically made of porcelain are both dental restorative techniques. Both are effective in terms of improving the tooth’s aesthetic appearance. Veneers and ceramic crowns can be designed the way you want it. Bigger, better and whiter!

The main difference between the two methods is how much of your original tooth gets pulled out, the thickness of the material used in covering your tooth, and also how much of your tooth gets covered.

Crowns are designed to cup-over and also encase your entire tooth and are therefore a good way of rebuilding the tooth. Because of the nature of the special materials used in the fabrication, these type of restorations are often used to improve and strengthen the appearance of a patient’s teeth. Veneers, in contrast, are basically a sliver of dental restorative that is bonded onto the tooth’s front side solely for cosmetic enhancements. This may be color improvements or minor shape adjustments.

Dental veneers can be completed in one trip only with 3-4 visits to the dentist. The procedure for a veneer may involve the following steps:

- Diagnosis: You should first have a consultation with our dentist where you discuss your desired results and treatment options. The dentist may take x-rays or impressions of your mouth and teeth.

- Preparation: At your next appointment, our dentist will trim approximately 0.3 millimetre of enamel off your tooth before making an impression of your tooth. Options such as local anaesthetic can be used to reduce pain and numb the area After your impression is sent off to the dental lab, you will receive your temporary veneers to try in ~3 days.

- Permanent veneers placement: Our dentist will then apply a special cement to the veneers before placing it on your teeth. Once it is in the correct position, your veneers will be photopolymerised. A particular light beam is used to activate the chemicals in the cement, which causes the cement to harden quickly and finalise the bonding of the veneers to your teeth. The veneers will match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth.

- Adjustments: Our dentist will then make any needed final adjustments.
While there is a short recovery time when getting veneers, the procedure is entirely worth it because in the end, you will have a beautiful smile.
Your teeth will typically be sore for a few days after the preparation phase and after placing the permanent veneers. During this time, you can take pain medication to help you stay comfortable. You can also benefit from getting rest and using a cold compress to reduce any swelling. We recommend that you should watch what you eat for a few days and stick with foods that are soft.
