BREAST AUGMENTATION

Breast Implant Surgery

Breast implant surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery services today. This procedure aims to increase the size and fullness of the breasts.

Physically, this method improves the shape of the breasts. Mentally, it helps you feel more confident and comfortable in communication and work.

Breast implants are artificial materials used in breast enhancement and are usually placed under the breast tissue or the chest muscle. The most commonly used type of implant on the market today is the silicone gel implant.

There are two types of breast implants: smooth implants and textured implants, available in various sizes and shapes to meet everyone's needs. You can consult with a specialist to choose the type and size of the implant that suits you.

To perform the breast enhancement procedure, surgeons typically insert the implant into the breast area through incisions in the armpit or chest, depending on the case. Skilled surgeons work to minimize scarring after the surgery.

Breast implant surgery may be performed for the following purposes:

  • To increase breast size
  • To improve breast shape
  • To correct breast asymmetry
  • To reconstruct breasts after mastectomy

Indications for Breast Implant Surgery

Certain individuals should consider breast implants, such as:

  • Women with naturally small breasts who want to enhance breast size to achieve better body proportions.
  • Women whose breasts have sagged after childbirth, weight loss, or aging, and wish to regain firm and full breasts, while also improving skin elasticity and firmness.
  • Women with uneven breast sizes who wish to enhance breast symmetry and harmony.
  • Individuals who have previously undergone breast enhancement but were dissatisfied with the result or experienced capsular contracture, and who may wish to improve their breasts with another implant.

However, not everyone who desires breast enhancement is a suitable candidate for this procedure. Some situations where breast implants should not be performed include:

  • Individuals under the age of 18.
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding; if you wish to proceed, it’s recommended to do so after weaning and with consultation from a doctor.
  • Individuals with underlying health conditions, such as hypertension or heart disease, or those on blood-thinning medications. In such cases, it’s important to inform the surgeon for appropriate management.

Consultation

You will receive thorough consultation to address any questions and receive personalized recommendations. To ensure optimal results and safety during the surgery, you will be asked about:

  • Any underlying medical conditions
  • Current medications and any known allergies
  • Contraceptive methods used
  • Whether you are breastfeeding
  • Your current occupation to assess recovery time and job demands

Pre-Surgery Health Assessment

At EMCAS, you will undergo various tests as part of the pre-surgery assessment. Using advanced technology, we utilize VECTRA 3D imaging to simulate the breast area.

We also perform additional examinations with CT scans (128-slice) or MRI (3.0 Tesla). Furthermore, a Cone Beam CT scan of your jaw structure will be taken to evaluate your oral health, which is important for post-surgery recovery.

Based on these results, the surgeon will determine if you are fit for surgery and advise you on implant size, incision placement, and potential risks.

Surgical Procedure

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon will make a small incision on your chest or armpit to insert the implant. The procedure typically lasts 45-60 minutes. After waking up, you should not experience significant pain or discomfort, thanks to the surgeon’s skill.

Your wound will be cleaned, and you will be advised to wear a supportive bra post-surgery. You will also need to stay in the hospital for at least 24 hours for rest and monitoring.

After being discharged, it’s important to follow the doctor’s aftercare instructions to achieve the desired results and attend follow-up appointments.

Post-Implant Surgery Care

To ensure smooth recovery and optimal results, here are some post-operative care guidelines:

  • Rest: After discharge, you may rest at home for the first few days or return to work depending on your health condition. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities, high-intensity sports, and swimming.

  • Wound care: Follow the surgeon’s instructions regarding post-surgery care. Keep the incision area clean and dry, and change dressings as advised. Avoid scratching or rubbing the incision. After removing the dressings, wear a supportive bra to stabilize the implants and reduce swelling.

  • Diet: Maintain a healthy diet with adequate nutrition, vitamins, and minerals. Drink about 1.5 – 2 liters of water daily. There is no need to restrict specific foods, but it’s recommended to avoid spicy, greasy foods and reduce alcohol and tobacco consumption.

  • Medication: Take medications as prescribed and attend regular follow-up appointments to monitor recovery and results. If any unusual symptoms occur, contact your doctor immediately for assistance.
